Chiropractic and Acupuncture in One Visit in Surprise, AZ

Can you get a chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture in the same visit? Yes. At Legg Chiropractic and Acupuncture in Surprise, AZ, Dr. Derek M. Legg, D.C., M.P.H. is a chiropractor who is also Certified in Acupuncture, so the chiropractic adjustment, the acupuncture, and dry needling all happen in one appointment, with one doctor, on one treatment plan. There is no referral to a second office and no second copay. New self pay patients start with the $49 first visit, which includes a first adjustment and a first acupuncture and dry needling treatment.

Can I get chiropractic and acupuncture in the same visit?

Yes. Dr. Legg performs the adjustment and places the acupuncture needles himself, in the same room, during the same appointment. Most offices treat the joint or the muscle. Here both are treated on the same day, because one doctor is certified to do both. Your examination and your digital X-rays decide which treatments you need; you are never handed a package. Results may vary.

Why combine chiropractic and acupuncture?

The adjustment and the needle do different jobs. The adjustment restores motion to a stuck joint and takes pressure off the nerve. Acupuncture works on the muscle and the nervous system around that joint, which is what keeps pulling a correction back out. Treating both in one visit means the joint is freed and the tissue around it is settled on the same day, instead of two weeks apart at two different offices. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that research supports acupuncture as a reasonable option for chronic pain, including low back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, and headache. Results may vary.

What a combined visit looks like

A combined visit is not a long day. Dr. Legg starts with your history and a hands on examination of how you move. If X-rays are clinically necessary, they are taken in the office the same day. Acupuncture comes next, with the points chosen from what the examination showed, and the acupuncture portion usually takes around 15 minutes. When your case calls for it, electrical stimulation goes on first to settle the muscle. Then comes the adjustment, with the muscle already settled. Plan on about 45 minutes for a first visit. There is no medication and no recovery time, so you drive yourself home. See what happens at your first visit.

What conditions do you treat with chiropractic and acupuncture together?

Most patients who get both come in for back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica and radiating pain, shoulder and hip pain, or recovery from auto accident injuries. Whether you need one treatment or all three comes from your examination, not from a menu. See every condition we treat.

Do I need two appointments or two providers?

No. One doctor, one appointment, one treatment plan. Dr. Legg is licensed as a chiropractor in Arizona and is Certified in Acupuncture by the Arizona Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He does not hand acupuncture off to a technician and does not send you to a separate acupuncture clinic. You see Dr. Legg at every visit.

Is it safe to have an adjustment and acupuncture on the same day?

For most patients, yes, and your examination is what decides it. Acupuncture needles are about the width of a human hair, single use, and sterile. Most patients feel a light tap on insertion and then nothing. If any part of care is uncomfortable, say so and Dr. Legg changes it. If your examination shows that one of the treatments is not right for you, it is left out of your plan, and he tells you why. If chiropractic is not the right fit at all, he tells you that on day one and points you toward who can help.

What about dry needling?

Dry needling uses a similar needle and very different reasoning. Acupuncture works from point systems that influence the nervous system and blood flow across a region of the body. Dry needling targets a trigger point inside one specific muscle to make that muscle release. Dr. Legg is trained in both and chooses between them, or combines them, based on what your examination shows. All three, the adjustment, acupuncture, and dry needling, can happen in the same visit.

How much does a combined chiropractic and acupuncture visit cost?

For new self pay patients, the first visit is $49 and covers the consultation, the chiropractic examination, digital X-rays if clinically necessary, your first adjustment, and your first acupuncture and dry needling treatment. After the first visit, Dr. Legg quotes the price in writing before any treatment begins, so you always know the cost before care starts. No plan is sold on the first visit. If you choose a care plan after your report of findings, it can be prepaid or paid monthly, and both cost less than paying visit by visit. Does insurance or Medicare cover both in one visit?

It depends on the plan, and we would rather you hear this before you book. We accept Medicare and most major plans for chiropractic care. Medicare covers medically necessary chiropractic spinal adjustments only. Acupuncture and dry needling performed by a chiropractor are not covered by Medicare and are billed as self pay. Decompression and X-rays ordered by a chiropractor are not covered by Medicare either. Most commercial plans treat chiropractic acupuncture the same way. We verify your benefits and quote the acupuncture price before your first treatment. See the insurance plans we accept.
