What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit in Surprise, AZ

A first chiropractic visit at Legg Chiropractic and Acupuncture in Surprise, Arizona takes about 45 minutes. Dr. Derek M. Legg, D.C., M.P.H. takes your history, performs a full chiropractic examination, and takes digital x-rays when they are clinically needed. Most patients are treated on the first visit, not just examined, and that treatment can include a chiropractic adjustment along with acupuncture or dry needling when it is appropriate.

What to Bring and When to Arrive

Arrive about 15 minutes early with your photo ID and your insurance or Medicare card. Bring a list of any surgeries you have had and the names of any other doctors you are seeing for this problem. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that come off easily. We are at 13757 W Bell Rd #101, Surprise, AZ 85374, inside Sheitelman Physical Medicine in the Sprouts shopping center at Bell Road and Litchfield Road. We are open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 to 12:00 and 2:30 to 5:30, and our number is (623) 214-7600. Arizona does not require a referral to see a chiropractor, and walk-ins are welcome.

Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Dry Needling in One Visit

The adjustment frees the joint, the spine, the disc, and the nerve. Acupuncture and dry needling settle the muscle, the spasm, the tendon, and the inflammation around it. Treating both in the same visit is why a correction tends to hold instead of sliding back, and it is the reason patients drive past other offices in Surprise, Sun City, Peoria, and Goodyear to get here.

Insurance and Medicare

We accept Medicare and most major plans and we verify your benefits before your visit, so there are no surprise bills. Medicare covers medically necessary chiropractic spinal adjustments only. Acupuncture and dry needling from a chiropractor are not covered by Medicare and are billed as self-pay.

Common Questions About a First Chiropractic Visit

How long does the first visit take?

About 45 minutes. Plan for a little longer if you arrive without your paperwork finished.

Does the first adjustment hurt?

Chiropractic adjustment is usually not painful. Some patients feel mild soreness afterward that settles quickly. Dr. Legg explains what he is doing before he does it, and nothing happens without your say-so.

Will I be treated on the first visit or just examined? Most patients are treated on the first visit. If the examination or your x-rays show that treatment should wait, Dr. Legg tells you that day and explains why.

Do I need x-rays?

Only when they are clinically needed. Digital x-rays are taken in the office, so nothing is sent out and nothing delays your care.

Do I need a referral?

No. In Arizona you can see a chiropractor without a referral. Book online, or walk in Monday through Thursday.

Who You Will See

Dr. Derek M. Legg, D.C., M.P.H., earned his Doctor of Chiropractic at Logan University and a Master of Public Health, and reads your imaging with you himself. You see the same doctor at every visit, which is why your plan stays consistent, and nothing gets handed off between providers.
